Used Book Donations

The Mars Area Public Library appreciates book donations all year long during designated drop off times. Please read below for specifics.

All donations are tax-deductible. Just ask for a receipt when you drop off your donation.

We decide which donated items are added to the Library’s collection, sold at the book sale (which benefits the Library), or discarded.

  • The Mars Area Public Library appreciates book donations all year long. Donations are accepted Mondays 3-7pm and Fridays 10am-3pm throughout the year. 

  • A large donation collection will occur 2 times per year during the week prior to the Friends of the Library Book Sale. (Check Friends of the Library webpage for details on upcoming book sales and book donation collections.) 

  • Donated books should never be dropped off outside the library or left after hours of operation. 

  • ***We are currently looking for new releases and best sellers as well as good condition children’s books. 

We Accept

  • Books

  • CDs

  • DVDs

  • All donated items must be in good condition no matter what their age! Remember, our sale is only as good as what we have to sell!

  • Magazines

  • Encyclopedias

  • VHS tapes

  • Audio cassettes

  • Materials older than 5 years (with the exception of one week prior to the biannual Friends of the Library Book Sale)

  • Books that are musty, water / smoke damaged, dirty, insect infested, have covers removed, or have writing inside

  • DVDs/CDs that are scratched or unusable

  • Items left outside the library
