Summer Reading Challenge

Monday, June 8 to Friday, July 31
Read books, attend programs, and win prizes! This summer everyone who completes their summer reading challenge will earn a prize!
June events open at 12am on Monday, May 25.
July events open at 12am on June 17.
This year we're encouraging all participants to track their reading progress through Beanstack, our online platform. However, if you prefer the traditional paper version, download and print the PDF below. Once the paper tracker has been filled out, transfer the information onto Beanstack to earn credit for your hard work!

Visit the Adams Area firehouse, check out the trucks, meet the firefighters and enjoy activities.

Modern Dinosaurs: The Chicken Connection
Starting Wednesday, June 10 all day | All Ages
Did you know that chickens are the closest living relatives to dinosaurs? Beginning on June 10, stop by the library to view chick eggs in an incubator, see chicks hatch, and learn about the dinosaur bird connection.

STEMsters
Wednesdays, June 10, July 8 & 22 at 10:30am | Children and tweens
STEMsters, the Mars High School Chapter of a national nonprofit, strives to develop a love for STEM among young students through an interactive activity-based learning experience. A typical lesson from STEMsters starts with a presentation that goes over an experiment and the instructions. Experiments are tested and the science concepts behind the projects are explained.

Learn to Draw: Prehistoric Series
Mondays, June 15, 29, and July 13 at 11am | Children
Listen to a prehistoric story and learn to draw prehistoric figures from Art School Student Extraordinaire Katie! There will be a different theme for each session.

LEGO Club
Tuesdays, June 16 and July 21 at 5pm | Children
Join us for a one hour drop-in, free play Lego building session! Children will have the opportunity to use our many bins of Legos to build their own creations. Creations will be on display in the Children's area for one month until the next Lego Club meeting. An optional monthly Lego challenge is also available

Kids Yoga in the Park
Wednesdays, June 17, July 1, 15, and 29 at 10am | Children
Experience the elements of yoga (breathe, move, rest) in a fun and engaging way with age-appropriate poses and a focus on breathing, relaxation, and meditation. This is a wonderful way for children to stretch their bodies and calm their minds in the great outdoors of Adams Township Park.
Loose clothing recommended to allow for comfortable movement. Bring your own yoga mat or blanket. This program is presented by IvyRehab for Kids.

PAWS to Read
Tuesdays, June 23 and July 28 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm | Children
Make a 15-minute appointment to practice your reading skills with the cutest listener ever, a golden retriever named Wally! Sign up to secure one of the available time slots. Up to two siblings per registration. Bring a book or two, but please, no toys.

K9 Storytime & Cop Cars
Wednesday, June 24 at 11am and Tuesday, July 14 at 5pm | Children
Meet the Adams Township Chief of Police and other officers along with special partner, K9 Kiko, for a police adventure storytime. Then, enjoy a peak at the Safety Squad (cop cars and other police vehicles) in our parking lot. *Types & quantity dependent on availability.

Worm Composter at the Library
Wednesdays, July 8, 22, and August 12 at 2pm | Children to Teens
Visit the library to learn about how worms turn waste into fertile soil. Our worm composter will be the home of a number of "red wigglers" this July who will turn waste food products into compost, which can then be used to grow healthy plants. Drop in for both sessions to see their progress and learn about worms and compost.

StoryWalk at Stormy Oaks Nature Conservancy
Saturday, July 18 to Friday, July 24 | All ages
Stormy Oaks Nature Conservancy in nearby Valencia is collaborating with the Mars Library to host an interactive, outdoor literacy activity. Pages from the children’s picture book, The Great Cookie Kerfuffle by Jessica Shaw, have been laminated and displayed on posts along the nature trail at Stormy Oaks. Merging physical activity with reading, families are encouraged to walk, read (aloud), and engage with stories in nature.

SRP Kickoff Party: Dino Dig
Friday, June 5 at 10am | All Ages
The Mars Area Public Library will kick off our Summer Reading Program with a Dino Dig Event! Join us for games, activities, face painting snacks and more. This event will be held outside at the Adam's Township Community Park at the Township Pavilion. We look forward to celebrating a prehistoric summer with everyone!

Big Butler Fair Coloring Contest
Monday, June 8 all day | Children
Stop in this week to pick up a coloring page and enter the Big Butler Fair Coloring Contest for a chance to win a pack of fair tickets. All submissions are due by 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 13. Winners will be selected by the Big Butler Fair Queen Court. One winner will be chosen for each age bracket. The Big Butler Fair runs July 3 through July 11.

Splish-Splash Safe: Water Safety
Monday, June 22 at 10:30am | Children
Stay safe this summer. Learn about water safety from a life guard and apply your new knowledge on the Adam's Township Community Park Splash Pad.

Stuffie Overnight & Storytime
Saturday, June 27 at 11am | Children
Your favorite stuffie is invited to a sleepover at the library! Please drop off your stuffie on Friday, June 26 (before 3:00 pm) and return to pick them up on Saturday, June 27 at 11:00 am to learn all about their nighttime activities and participate in a special stuffie storytime.

Dinosaurs Among Us
Tuesday, July 7 at 5:30pm | Children
Modern scientific consensus classifies birds as a specialized group of dinosaurs—theropods—the same lineage as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor!
Join us as we explore that connection between modern birds and prehistoric dinosaurs with a team of educators and local animal ambassadors from Stormy Oaks Nature Conservancy (home of Wildbird Recovery). Recommended for ages 6+.

Butler Symphony String Trio
Saturday, July 18 at 1pm | All ages
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will bring a string trio to the Mars Library today for an afternoon of Beethoven. Come and enjoy the music.

Mars Railroad Storytime
Tuesday, July 21 at 5pm | Children
All Aboard! Listen to a train story and then take a ride on the train and explore the campus. This event will be held at the Mars Train Station.

Summer Reading Program Finale: Stone Age Suds
Friday, July 31 at 10am | All ages
Time to celebrate the end of the 2026 Summer Reading Program with some good "clean" fun at our annual Foam Party and more! With music, beach balls, and an awesome foam cannon that shoots out foam up to 5 feet high, it's sure to be a good time. We'll have snacks and some other fun activities, too! Come dressed to get foamed (towels recommended; swimwear/goggles optional). This event will be held outside at the Adam's Township Community Park at the Rotary Pavilion.
